Doom vs Lich

How this matchup plays

Thinking you can simply run at a hero and cast Doom often backfires against a Lich. Even if the ultimate lands, Lich can immediately cast Frost Shield on that target. The shield's damage reduction stays active, so your team's follow-up burst gets heavily reduced, and the target is much harder to bring down. Before the fight even starts, Lich can use Sinister Gaze to stop Doom in his tracks, pulling him out of position and preventing the ultimate from ever being used.

Laning against Lich puts Doom on the back foot, as the constant slows and harass make it difficult to secure farm. Later on, Doom wants to use his ultimate to create an advantage and win a teamfight, but Lich fundamentally undermines this plan. His team can play more aggressively, knowing Frost Shield is ready to save whoever gets caught. Doom is forced to either kill Lich first, which is tricky, or accept that his primary spell won't guarantee a kill, making it much harder to convert his key cooldown into objectives.
