Doom vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Picking a single-target hero like Doom into Spectre presents a fundamental problem. Doom's entire game plan revolves around using his ultimate to delete one key hero from a fight. Spectre's Haunt, however, instantly floods the map with illusions, making it extremely difficult to identify the real one before committing the spell. Casting Doom on an illusion is a fight-losing mistake. Even if Doom finds the correct target, Spectre's Dispersion passively reflects damage back at his team, punishing them for trying to focus her. She hurts you for trying to kill her.

This dynamic forces Doom to play a guessing game with his most important cooldown. In teamfights, he often has to hold his ultimate, waiting for Haunt to end or for the real Spectre to be revealed, which severely limits his impact. A smart Spectre will use Haunt to initiate, creating chaos and forcing this difficult choice upon Doom. Doom's only real counterplay is to catch Spectre out of position before a fight starts, or to accept that his ultimate must be used on a less important target, which is rarely a good trade.
