Doom vs Winter Wyvern

How this matchup plays

Picking Doom into a Winter Wyvern means you have to plan around her saves. Doom wants to use his ultimate to isolate and eliminate a single target, but Wyvern's kit directly interferes. Cold Embrace can make the Doomed hero immune to physical damage, buying precious time for their team to turn the fight and negating much of the follow-up. On top of that, Winter's Curse can disrupt Doom's team, forcing them to attack an entirely different hero. This leaves the Doomed target burning alone while the crucial teamfight is decided elsewhere, nullifying the initiation.

Throughout the game, this dynamic forces the Doom player to be more deliberate. He can't simply jump on the first valuable hero he finds; instead, he has to try and bait out Winter Wyvern's spells or wait for her to be out of position. The best-case scenario for Doom is often using his ultimate on Wyvern herself, but good positioning makes that a difficult task. This tension doesn't automatically lose Doom the game, but it does put the burden of outplaying on him. Wyvern's reactive saves provide a reliable way to blunt Doom's most powerful tool.
