Drow Ranger vs Shadow Shaman

How this matchup plays

Getting caught by a Shadow Shaman is often the end for Drow Ranger. His long-duration lockdown from Hex and Shackles can hold her in place for his team to finish off, completely bypassing her damage and slow. The entire interaction comes down to who acts first. If Shadow Shaman initiates, Drow is usually dead. But if Drow Ranger anticipates the gank and lands a Gust, the Shaman is silenced and helpless, unable to cast his spells and easily kited and killed from a distance. This quick-draw dynamic defines the matchup, making it feel very volatile and dependent on initiation.

Throughout the game, Shadow Shaman is actively looking for pickoffs on Drow, using smoke or vision advantages to find an opening. Drow Ranger has to play with extreme care, respecting Shaman's blink range and often needing an early defensive item to survive. Her goal is to farm safely and position in the back of teamfights, letting her team deal with the Shaman before she commits. It's a game of cat and mouse where a single misstep from Drow gets her killed, but a failed gank from Shadow Shaman can mean he gets picked off and his team loses the ensuing objective fight.
