Drow Ranger vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Picking Venomancer into a Drow Ranger often feels like a gamble on the laning stage. Drow Ranger has a few key tools for the matchup that are hard for Venomancer to overcome. The silence and knockback from Gust can completely stop him from casting Poison Nova, his most important spell in a teamfight. Combined with the constant slow from her Frost Arrows, Drow can usually keep the fragile Venomancer at a safe distance while she attacks. She also clears out Plague Wards very quickly, denying him vision and the chip damage they provide, giving her an advantage when they interact directly.

Across a full game, this dynamic tends to favor Drow Ranger more as time goes on. Venomancer can have a strong early game, using his potent damage-over-time to bully a weak Drow in lane and slow her farm. However, once Drow groups with her team and gets a few core items, her long range and high physical damage become overwhelming. Venomancer is forced to find risky angles to apply his spells, often trading his life to do so. If he fails to find that opening, Drow Ranger can control fights from the back line and pick his team apart.
