Earth Spirit vs Luna

How this matchup plays

Kicking Luna away from her team during Eclipse is the central dynamic here. An Earth Spirit on the enemy team fundamentally threatens Luna's ability to stand her ground and deal damage, since he can instantly reposition her with Boulder Smash. He can also save his own allies by kicking them out of the ultimate's radius. This forces the Luna player to constantly track Earth Spirit's position and cooldowns before committing to a fight. For the Earth Spirit, the goal is to hold that kick for the perfect moment. Outside of that specific interaction, however, Luna isn't too bothered by his other spells, especially once she has some items.

This standoff often resolves with Luna's Black King Bar timing. A quick BKB allows her to ignore Earth Spirit's disruption completely and cast a full-duration Eclipse, which can single-handedly win a fight. Before she gets that item, she's vulnerable to his ganks and initiation. Conversely, Luna’s high physical damage from Moon Glaives means a poorly executed roll from Earth Spirit can get him killed very quickly. The matchup hinges on these key timings, where either hero can gain the advantage by forcing the other to act first and punishing the mistake.
