Earth Spirit vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Stealing one of Earth Spirit's basic abilities seems like a good opportunity for Rubick, but it’s often a trap. Boulder Smash and Geomagnetic Grip are very weak without Stone Remnants to empower them, and Rubick can't make his own. He might get Rolling Boulder, but it's a shorter, less impactful version. The main prize, Magnetize, is a great steal, but using it well means Rubick has to be deep in the fight—which is exactly where Earth Spirit wants a fragile support to be. This leaves Rubick with a menu of stolen spells that are often underwhelming.

This dynamic allows Earth Spirit to dictate the engagement. He can confidently look for openings to roll onto the back lines and lock Rubick down. In response, the Rubick player must be extremely cautious, often staying too far back to have a major impact early on. His best bet is to ignore Earth Spirit entirely and try to steal a more valuable ultimate from another hero on the enemy team. The game becomes less about a direct duel and more about Earth Spirit consistently making Rubick's job much harder from the start.
