How this matchup plays

Laning against Pugna is often a resource drain for Ember Spirit. Nether Blast is an efficient way to break Flame Guard, making it difficult for Ember to trade hits or contest runes without taking significant damage. A successful Life Drain channel can force an early Remnant escape, bleeding his mana. The core of this matchup, however, revolves around Pugna's Nether Ward. It directly punishes Ember’s entire damage pattern, which relies on casting multiple spells in a short window. A full Sleight of Fist combo can trigger enough Ward zaps to kill Ember Spirit outright.

As the game develops, it becomes a duel of initiation and positioning. Pugna wants to stay with his team, establishing a Nether Ward to control a teamfight area and make it impossible for Ember Spirit to jump in safely. He can use Decrepify to save a teammate from Ember's initial burst. Ember’s goal is the opposite: he needs to play around the Ward's vision, find Pugna isolated, and kill him before he can react.
