Ember Spirit vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Stealing a key spell from Ember Spirit seems powerful, but he often controls what Rubick gets. Ember will usually cast Searing Chains or Flame Guard last, making them the easiest spells for Rubick to take with Spell Steal. While a stolen Chains is useful, it’s not the game-breaking Fire Remnant that Rubick is truly after. Meanwhile, Ember's own Flame Guard absorbs the magic damage from Fade Bolt, making him resilient to poke. Rubick's Telekinesis can hold Ember in place, but it needs a teammate to follow up with enough damage to actually break the shield.

This creates a constant cat-and-mouse game across the map. Ember Spirit has to be mindful of his spell order whenever Rubick is nearby, playing cautiously to deny the ultimate steal. Rubick, in turn, has to predict Ember's movements and be ready to capitalize on any mistake for that perfect steal. Success for either hero often comes down to who outplays the other in these key moments. If Rubick fails to get a good spell, Ember is free to split the map and apply pressure that Rubick struggles to match.
