Ember Spirit vs Shadow Shaman

Drafting one hero into the other creates a real cat-and-mouse game centered on lockdown. Shadow Shaman brings some of the best tools for catching an Ember Spirit, primarily because Hex is an instant disable. This gives Ember no time to react and escape with a Fire Remnant. While he can often dodge the follow-up Shackles with a well-timed Sleight of Fist, that initial Hex is usually all a team needs to close the distance for a kill. The whole interaction pivots on which hero gets the jump on the other first, but the instant nature of Hex gives Shadow Shaman a small advantage.

This dynamic makes early ganks on a mid Ember Spirit particularly dangerous. As the game develops, the primary threat becomes a Shadow Shaman with a Blink Dagger. The Ember player has to constantly respect this, tracking Shaman’s position and using remnants for vision or as a pre-placed escape. If Ember can bait out the Hex or get key defensive items online, he can operate much more freely. Until then, the constant threat of being instantly disabled forces Ember Spirit to play a more careful and reactive game than he typically wants to.
