How this matchup plays

A duel between these two often looks like a tense standoff over who uses their ultimate first. It might seem like a simple trade, but Magnus has multiple reliable ways to cancel Black Hole. Both Reverse Polarity and Skewer can interrupt the channel, making it very risky for Enigma to commit if Magnus is alive and has his spells ready. For Black Hole to be successful, Enigma usually needs to catch Magnus himself, or wait for him to use his abilities on someone else. The interaction is less of a hard counter and more of a mutual check.

Throughout the game, this creates a cat-and-mouse dynamic. A good Magnus will hold his position and abilities, waiting to be the hero who stops the big teamfight spell. This forces Enigma to play patiently, relying on teammates for a setup stun or waiting for Magnus to be baited out of position. The small edge for Enigma often comes from his superior farming speed with Eidolons, which can allow him to secure a Blink Dagger or Black King Bar slightly faster. This can create a small window where Enigma is ready to initiate before Magnus has the items or positioning to respond effectively.
