Faceless Void vs Monkey King

How this matchup plays

Casting Wukong's Command against a Faceless Void is a huge risk. Chronosphere placed over the area will completely neutralize Monkey King's ultimate, freezing him and his soldiers in place. This turns his biggest teamfight contribution into a major liability. Even outside of that direct counter, Chronosphere is the perfect tool to lock down an otherwise elusive hero. Faceless Void can use Time Walk to close the distance for a guaranteed catch, and Time Dilation punishes Monkey King for trying to use his spells to get away, leaving him stuck with long cooldowns.

This dynamic forces the Monkey King to play reactively all game. He can't confidently start fights with his ultimate, so he has to wait for Chronosphere to be used first, handing the initiative over to Void's team. Faceless Void, on the other hand, can simply play his normal game, and Monkey King is often the prime target for a pickoff. Their goals are fundamentally opposed, as both heroes want to be the centerpiece of a big teamfight with a large, area-denial ultimate. This conflict is so strong that they even tend to get in each other's way when played on the same side.
