Grimstroke vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Catching Witch Doctor with Soulbind during Death Ward seems like the perfect counter, but it’s rarely that simple. Both heroes are trying to land a game-winning ultimate, and both have the tools to stop the other from doing it. While Grimstroke can lock down two heroes, a well-timed Paralyzing Cask from Witch Doctor can interrupt Ink Swell or prevent Grimstroke from getting into position to cast Soulbind in the first place. This creates a duel where both supports are looking for that one crucial moment to disable the other before they can get their own spells off.

The matchup often comes down to positioning and who has better vision. A good Witch Doctor won't channel his ultimate in the open where Grimstroke can easily land a two-hero Soulbind; he’ll wait in the trees or use it after Grimstroke has already committed. Likewise, a patient Grimstroke will hold his spells, waiting for the distinct sound of Death Ward before revealing himself to find the tether. The entire fight can swing based on which of these two supports gets the jump on the other, making their individual duel a major factor in the outcome of any teamfight.
