How this matchup plays

Picking Gyrocopter into a Lich often feels like a mistake from the draft screen. Lich's entire kit seems designed to frustrate him, starting with Frost Shield. This one spell completely shuts down Gyrocopter's desire to run at a target with Rocket Barrage, heavily reducing his damage and slowing him down. Trying to commit to a kill means you end up out of position and easily punished. Later, Sinister Gaze provides a simple, reliable lockdown on Gyrocopter once his Black King Bar duration is over, making him a non-factor in crucial late-game fights.

The game starts with Gyrocopter struggling to trade in lane against constant slows and harass. This pressure continues into the mid-game, where his aggression is met with a defensive spell that turns his gank attempt sour. In teamfights, Gyrocopter is forced to play cautiously because a single Chain Frost can tear through him and any allies positioned nearby for his Flak Cannon. The Gyrocopter player is forced into a very precise, BKB-dependent playstyle, while the Lich can hold his spells and wait for the first mistake.
