Gyrocopter vs Lion

How this matchup plays

Picking a carry like Gyrocopter into a support Lion is a tough ask. Gyro needs to get close to deal damage with Rocket Barrage and Flak Cannon, but Lion has the perfect tools to stop him cold. An instant Hex completely shuts down Gyro's aggression, leaving him vulnerable. Lion can then follow up with Earth Spike and Mana Drain, keeping Gyrocopter locked down and out of mana. Even without help, Finger of Death is often enough on its own to secure a kill on such a naturally fragile hero before he can react.

This pressure starts in the lane and never really lets up. As the game goes on, Lion's whole job becomes to blink onto Gyrocopter and delete him before he contributes to a teamfight. Gyrocopter is forced into buying a Black King Bar much earlier than he'd like, delaying his core damage items. Even with a BKB, Lion can play patiently, waiting for the immunity to expire or simply using his spells to control the rest of Gyrocopter's team until the carry is isolated. The initiative is always with Lion.
