Gyrocopter vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Casting your ultimate as Gyrocopter against a Rubick often feels like you're helping the enemy team. Call Down is an incredible spell for Rubick to steal; it's a huge area-of-effect disable that can completely turn a fight around. Even Homing Missile is a solid pickup for him to set up kills. Beyond Spell Steal, Rubick’s base kit is also a problem. Telekinesis is a simple way to hold the fragile Gyrocopter in place to be bursted down, and Fade Bolt directly reduces the physical damage that makes up most of Gyro's output. It's a matchup where almost every ability lines up poorly for Gyro.

This dynamic forces the Gyrocopter player into an impossible choice during teamfights: either hold your most impactful spell, or cast it and risk having Rubick win the fight with it. The pressure is on from the very beginning, as Rubick can easily punish Gyro's low mobility. To have a chance, Gyrocopter needs to get a Black King Bar and try to blow up Rubick before he can react. A smart Rubick will anticipate this, however, positioning safely behind his team and waiting for that one perfect moment to steal a spell and swing the game.
