Invoker vs Lifestealer

How this matchup plays

Getting run at by a Lifestealer is a nightmare for Invoker. The central problem is Rage. Most of Invoker’s power comes from chaining together magical control and damage spells, but Rage makes Lifestealer completely immune to that entire plan. Key setup spells like Cold Snap are either dispelled or prevented entirely, while follow-ups like Meteor or Deafening Blast are simply ignored. Lifestealer can activate his magic immunity and walk straight through the flurry of spells that would kill almost any other hero, leaving Invoker without his primary tools for self-defense.

This dynamic forces Invoker to play reactively from the laning stage onwards. Lifestealer can dictate the pace, threatening dives and forcing Invoker to use Ghost Walk defensively. He has to rely entirely on his teammates for lockdown or save himself with items like a Ghost Scepter. In teamfights, the Lifestealer will often make a point of finding and targeting Invoker, knowing there’s little the mage can do to stop him once Rage is active. Invoker's best bet is to stay on the very edge of the fight and hope his team can peel for him long enough for the immunity to wear off.
