Invoker vs Lion

How this matchup plays

Catching an Invoker with instant lockdown seems like a clear path to victory, but it's not that simple. Lion's Hex and Earth Spike are definitely threatening, as they can interrupt spell combinations before they begin. However, a good Invoker rarely stands still in the open waiting to be jumped. He can play from long range with Tornado and Sun Strike, or use Ghost Walk to move around the map unseen and avoid ganks entirely. This forces Lion to rely on smoke ganks or perfect vision to find his opening, turning the initiation into a mind game rather than a direct confrontation.

The matchup often comes down to who gets the jump and what items have been built. An Invoker caught without a Black King Bar or Linken's Sphere is an easy kill for Lion and his team. On the other hand, an Invoker who sees Lion first can use Tornado to disable him from a safe distance and set up his own team's attack. Because both heroes have clear win conditions against each other that rely heavily on positioning and vision control, neither one ends up with a consistent advantage over the other across most games.
