Invoker vs Luna

How this matchup plays

Controlling Luna's early timings is how Invoker can find an advantage. His spell arsenal is well-suited to punishing a hero who needs to stand still to deal damage. A well-timed Tornado or Deafening Blast can completely neutralize Luna in a gank, setting up an easy kill before she has a chance to react. Even in lane, Cold Snap makes it difficult for her to trade effectively. Luna's main objective becomes surviving this period long enough to farm a Black King Bar, which invalidates much of Invoker's spell-based control.

The game then becomes a race against that key item. Invoker and his team will look to repeatedly gank Luna to delay her farm and prevent her from hitting her BKB timing. If successful, they can build a lead she can't overcome. If Luna secures her BKB on schedule, however, she can turn the tables. She will actively force fights during its duration, often running straight at Invoker to burst him down before he can escape. The match often hinges on which hero better dictates the pace before that item is purchased.
