Invoker vs Morphling

How this matchup plays

Picking Morphling into an Invoker means preparing for a constant disruption of your rhythm. While Morphling can often survive burst damage by shifting to Strength, Invoker's toolkit presents a more complicated problem. Spells like EMP drain the mana needed for both Attribute Shift and Waveform, leaving Morphling stranded and vulnerable. Cold Snap can lock him in place, preventing him from escaping even if he can survive the initial damage. It's less about a single burst combo and more about Invoker having multiple ways to control the fight and prevent Morphling from playing his own game.

The matchup often comes down to itemization and positioning. An Invoker will look for pickoffs using his control spells, aiming to catch Morphling before he can react or get key spells off. A well-timed Tornado can set up a kill or simply force Morphling out of a fight. In response, Morphling will typically rush an item like Black King Bar or Linken's Sphere to negate this control. If Morphling can secure this timing and get the jump on Invoker, he has more than enough damage to win the one-on-one.
