Invoker vs Spectre

How this matchup plays

Thinking you can burst Spectre down with a full combo is usually a mistake. All that damage from spells like Chaos Meteor and Sun Strike gets partially reflected by Dispersion, and a squishy Invoker can end up taking huge damage himself for trying to do his job. This neutralizes his solo kill threat against her, because even landing a perfect setup isn't a guaranteed kill. It punishes exactly the kind of high-output spell barrage he relies on to secure an advantage.

This dynamic forces Invoker to play more cautiously as the game progresses. He can't safely split push or farm aggressively because Spectre's Haunt is a constant threat that can find him anywhere. He's much better off sticking with his team and using control spells like Tornado and Deafening Blast to enable his allies to deal with Spectre. Meanwhile, Spectre can focus on her own game, comfortable in the knowledge that she's resilient to Invoker's burst and can turn on him if he's ever caught alone.
