Invoker vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Trying to land a kill with Venomancer depends heavily on Venomous Gale hitting, but Invoker can easily dispel that slow with a single Tornado. This simple interaction removes a huge part of Venomancer’s threat. More importantly, Invoker’s entire kit is designed to deliver high burst damage from a distance, which is a natural counter to a fragile hero who needs time for his damage-over-time spells to work. Invoker can often delete Venomancer with a single spell combo before Poison Nova's effects can turn a fight.

This advantage starts in the lane, where Invoker can use his spells to control the pace and punish Venomancer’s poor mobility. In later teamfights, Invoker becomes the initiator, using Tornado to catch Venomancer out of position. Even a successful Poison Nova isn't a guaranteed win for Venomancer's team. Invoker can use a Black King Bar to ride out the worst of the poison, ignore the slows from other abilities, and then turn to eliminate the now-vulnerable Venomancer. Veno has no escape and can’t survive being the focus of Invoker’s combos.
