Invoker vs Winter Wyvern

How this matchup plays

Saving an ally with Cold Embrace feels much less secure against an Invoker. The spell only blocks physical damage, leaving the target completely vulnerable to Invoker's magical burst from Chaos Meteor or a well-placed Sun Strike. Rather than a true save, Cold Embrace can turn an ally into a stationary target for his combos. Winter Wyvern is excellent at stopping physical carries from finishing a target, but her core defensive ability offers very little protection from the pure spell damage that a Quas-Exort Invoker brings to a fight.

Later on, the matchup becomes a duel of big teamfight spells. Invoker has many tools to play around a Winter's Curse, using Tornado to stall out the duration on the cursed target or Ice Wall to prevent allies from reaching them. This can completely neutralize Wyvern's ultimate. On the other hand, a well-timed Curse from Winter Wyvern can catch Invoker mid-combo and turn the fight on its head. Success hinges on which of these two heroes gets the better timing with their abilities, making the engagement feel very dependent on player skill.
