Keeper of the Light vs Monkey King

How this matchup plays

Picking Monkey King into the draft means hoping the enemy doesn't respond with Keeper of the Light. The entire matchup hinges on a few core interactions that heavily favor the Keeper. When Monkey King commits with Wukong's Command, he creates a perfect target for Blinding Light, which pushes him straight out of his own ultimate and renders it useless. The miss chance from that same spell also makes it incredibly difficult for Monkey King to build Jingu Mastery stacks, which neuters his damage output and sustain. Even outside of fights, Illuminate is a constant threat to the trees Monkey King needs for mobility with Tree Dance.

Across the game, this forces the Monkey King player into a very awkward position. He either needs to buy a Black King Bar much earlier than he'd like, or he has to try and burst the Keeper of the Light before a single spell comes out. Meanwhile, KOTL's team can play aggressively, knowing their support provides a reliable counter to the enemy's main teamfight spell. Fights become predictable; Monkey King looks for an opening, and Keeper of the Light waits to shut it down.
