Kez vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Thinking Kez can win a straight manfight against any other carry is the trap here. His entire kit, from stance-swapping to his parry, is built to excel in a one-on-one duel against a single, predictable opponent. Phantom Lancer completely denies him this clean fight. Kez’s precision tools are wasted trying to find the real hero among a swarm of illusions. A well-timed parry might block a weak illusion attack, and his burst damage gets spread thinly across multiple copies instead of deleting a priority target.

Early in the lane, Kez might be able to pressure Phantom Lancer before he can create a lot of copies. But once the mid-game hits, the matchup flips entirely. Kez wants to isolate and execute a hero, but he can never find the real PL to commit his abilities on. He gets bogged down and drained by the illusion army, unable to do his job in a teamfight or split-push effectively. Kez is forced into buying area-of-effect items that don't fit his duelist design, while PL builds his standard items and eventually overwhelms him.
