Kunkka vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Controlling waves against Phantom Lancer relies on area damage, and Kunkka has that built into his kit. A single Tidebringer swing can clear out a fresh set of illusions, slowing down PL's push and farm. Kunkka’s Torrent and Ghostship also provide the tools to manage the chaos once a fight breaks out. The core issue for Kunkka, however, is that Phantom Lancer can reliably use Doppelganger to dodge the X Marks the Spot combo. This means Kunkka often struggles to land his full burst on the real hero, who can then simply create a new army and re-engage.

The matchup often becomes a battle of tempo. Early on, Kunkka can shove lanes and create map pressure, forcing Phantom Lancer into a defensive posture and potentially delaying his key items. A team can capitalize on that space to take objectives. If the game drags on, though, the advantage shifts. A farmed Phantom Lancer with items that drain mana can hunt an isolated Kunkka and overwhelm him. It really comes down to whether Kunkka’s team can finish the game with their mid-game strength or if PL survives long enough to take over.
