How this matchup plays

Winning a Duel against Phantom Lancer seems straightforward on paper, but it rarely is. Legion Commander’s Overwhelming Odds is a solid tool for clearing out illusions and softening the real hero, making him easier to spot. The problem is timing. A quick Phantom Lancer can use Doppelganger to become untargetable right as the Duel challenge begins, completely wasting the spell. The fight then becomes a messy guessing game where dueling an illusion leaves Legion Commander vulnerable and deep in enemy territory with her ultimate on cooldown.

The matchup often comes down to which hero gets ahead and the support they have. Early on, Legion Commander can bully and pressure a weaker Phantom Lancer. As the game progresses, however, PL’s ability to create chaos makes it difficult for LC to find a clean initiation. She needs her team to provide vision and stuns to pin down the real target for Duel. In return, Phantom Lancer aims to overwhelm her team with illusions, forcing the Duel on a less important target so he can clean up the fight afterward.
