Lich vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Stealing spells from Lich is always a gamble for Rubick. Getting your hands on a Chain Frost can turn a fight completely on its head, especially when the enemy team doesn't expect it. Even Frost Shield is a great defensive spell to have. The problem is that Lich's other spells are spammable and simple. A good Lich knows you're waiting, and he can easily cast Frost Blast right after his ultimate, leaving you with a minor nuke instead of the game-winning bounce. This tension keeps the matchup feeling very even, hinging on small windows of opportunity.

The lane itself is often a wash, with both heroes trading resources effectively. Later on, everything revolves around teamfights and that ultimate. The Lich player is focused on getting a good Chain Frost off and then immediately covering his tracks with another spell to deny the steal. The Rubick player is constantly watching Lich's position, waiting for that one moment to grab the ultimate. Who wins the fight can often come down to which of these two supports executes their plan better, making it a true coin flip.
