Lich vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Considering a Windranger pick means you should probably check if the enemy can still grab Lich. Windranger’s entire kit struggles against him. Her Windrun provides no defense against his magical burst from Frost Blast and Chain Frost. More importantly, Frost Shield is a direct answer to Focus Fire. Placing the shield on Windranger’s target heavily cuts her damage output and slows her for attempting the kill, effectively neutralizing her primary teamfight contribution before it even gets started.

This forces Windranger to play around Lich all game. She can’t simply open on a key target; she has to bait out Frost Shield first or hope it gets used on someone else. A patient Lich will hold that spell specifically for her, making her feel useless in fights. His Sinister Gaze also provides reliable setup, pulling a slippery Windranger out of position or cancelling her Powershot. She needs to build specifically to handle him, while he counters her by simply playing his normal game.
