Lifestealer vs Pugna

How this matchup plays

Fighting a Pugna often comes down to timing his Decrepify. Lifestealer can completely ignore Pugna's magical damage with Rage, letting him run through Nether Blast and Life Drain without a problem. This forces Pugna to rely entirely on Decrepify to survive, which makes him immune to Lifestealer's physical attacks. The result is a standoff where each hero has a button that completely negates the other's primary way of dealing damage. It's a classic case where both have a perfect defensive tool for what the other wants to do.

This whole matchup hinges on who uses their key spell first. If Lifestealer can bait out Decrepify, he can then use Rage and kill Pugna easily. Conversely, if Pugna holds Decrepify until after Lifestealer commits Rage, he can save himself or a teammate and kite until the magic immunity ends. The fight is rarely straightforward, as both heroes are trying to out-wait the other. A successful Lifestealer will force the issue on his own terms, while a good Pugna will use positioning and his team to force Lifestealer's hand early.
