Lion vs Troll Warlord

How this matchup plays

Wasting a full combo on a core who won't die is a huge setback for a ganking team. Lion's entire game plan revolves around locking down a key target with Hex and Earth Spike, then deleting them with Finger of Death. The problem is that Troll Warlord can often activate Battle Trance even while stunned, making him unkillable and turning Lion's big nuke into a complete waste. This forces Lion to either hold his ultimate or risk using it on a less important hero, which can completely swing a fight.

Early on, Lion can be a real problem for Troll Warlord, setting up kills before Battle Trance is available. As the game progresses, however, the dynamic shifts. Lion has to be extremely careful with his positioning and cooldowns. Using Finger of Death too early means Troll survives and likely wins the fight. Waiting too long might mean Troll gets his own spells off or activates BKB, making Lion's disables useless. The matchup often comes down to which hero gets the jump on the other and whether Lion can successfully bait the ultimate before committing his own.
