How this matchup plays

Seeing a Spectre pick can make you question your Magnus game plan, because her kit directly undermines his. Magnus wants to land a game-winning Reverse Polarity on a group of enemies. Spectre’s Haunt not only makes finding the real hero in a fight confusing, but it also creates chaos that foils a clean setup. Even if Magnus successfully catches Spectre and his team follows up, her Dispersion ability will reflect a huge amount of that burst damage back onto the heroes clumped by the ultimate. This turns Magnus’s biggest strength into a dangerous trap for his own team.

This dynamic forces the Magnus player into a difficult position. Trying to isolate and burst Spectre is often the wrong move, as she's incredibly durable and can always rejoin the fight with Haunt. A patient Spectre will often wait for Reverse Polarity to be used on her teammates before committing to the fight, arriving fresh as Magnus’s most important spell goes on cooldown. This leaves Magnus having to choose between using his ultimate on less important targets or risking it all on the Spectre, who is uniquely equipped to punish him for doing his job.
