How this matchup plays

Controlling the pace of the game gets difficult for Templar Assassin. Magnus can use Shockwave to push out lanes from a distance, forcing TA to respond and preventing her from setting her own farming tempo or easily taking objectives. His ability to reposition heroes is the real problem, though. Skewer can pull Templar Assassin out of her preferred spot in a fight, breaking her stand-and-hit rhythm, while Reverse Polarity locks her down completely. Since Refraction offers no protection against being moved or stunned, TA has to be very careful with her positioning.

Early on, the Magnus will try to keep the wave pushed, messing with TA's ability to stack camps and control runes. Templar Assassin's goal is to hit a timing with her core items before Magnus can start making plays across the map with his team. If she gets ahead, she can try to burst Magnus before he can use his ultimate. However, if the game goes even, Magnus’s teamfight control often gives his side the edge in crucial engagements, pulling TA into his allies or stunning her long enough for them to finish the job.
