Magnus vs Windranger

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map against a Windranger can be difficult for a Magnus. His ultimate, Reverse Polarity, will lock her down, but her Windrun often lets her survive the physical damage follow-up that's supposed to secure the kill. Outside of that long cooldown, his Shockwave and Skewer are not reliable tools for catching such an evasive hero. On the other hand, Windranger lacks the high, sustained burst needed to threaten a naturally tanky hero like Magnus. She can poke and kite him from a distance, but she rarely has the tools to bring him down alone, making it hard for her to punish his presence.

This dynamic means both heroes usually try to play around each other. A smart Magnus will often look for opportunities to Blink past the Windranger and catch her more vulnerable teammates with his ultimate. Securing a kill on her allies can win the fight even if she escapes. In response, Windranger has to position defensively, waiting for Magnus to commit his spells before she can safely move in with Shackleshot and Focus Fire. The outcome rarely depends on a direct duel, but rather on which hero finds a better opening on the other's teammates first.
