Marci vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Trying to lock down Phantom Lancer in a teamfight is a nightmare for Marci. Her entire kit is built to isolate and eliminate a single hero, from the stun on Rebound to the repositioning of Dispose. Phantom Lancer completely unravels that plan. He can use Doppelganger to disjoint her initiation, and even if she connects, she’ll often find she’s wasted her spells on an illusion. Unleash is particularly ineffective; the rapid single-target punches are easily soaked up by Juxtapose illusions, making it almost impossible to focus down the real hero.

This dynamic means Marci’s impact falls off a cliff as soon as Phantom Lancer gets his core items. Where she normally excels at creating pickoffs and controlling key targets, she becomes a non-factor against a PL who is split into multiple copies. She can't initiate on him, and if she goes on one of his teammates, PL can simply swarm her. Marci is forced to rely entirely on her allies to provide the area-of-effect control and damage needed to handle the illusion army, because she brings none of it herself.
