Mars vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Trying to fight inside Arena of Blood is a nightmare when Venomancer is on the other team. Mars wants to trap enemies and create a controlled fight for his team to burst down key targets. Venomancer completely turns this plan on its head by filling the arena with damage. A well-placed Poison Nova, combined with Plague Wards and Venomous Gale, makes the very area Mars is trying to control incredibly deadly for his own team. The walls that are meant to keep enemies in now serve to keep Mars's allies trapped in a zone of slows and constant poison, making them easy targets.

This dynamic plays out across the entire game. In lane, Mars struggles to get close enough to trade effectively without taking significant damage from Venomancer's constant harass. Later on, Mars is forced to make a very difficult choice in teamfights. He either has to commit everything to try and burst Venomancer before he can react, or he has to use his Arena on other heroes and accept that Venomancer will simply poison the entire area from a safe distance. Mars needs a clean, decisive fight, but Venomancer is built to drag things out and win a war of attrition.
