Mars vs Void Spirit

How this matchup plays

Trapping Void Spirit inside Arena of Blood seems like a good idea, but it rarely works out. His whole kit is designed to reposition or become untargetable. He can use Dissimilate to dodge the initial setup or Spear of Mars, and Astral Step lets him escape the Arena entirely even after he's caught. Aether Remnant can also pull Mars out of position or interrupt his combo. Mars relies on his target being stuck, and Void Spirit is one of the hardest heroes to keep in one place. This fundamental mismatch is also why they struggle as allies; the Arena wall is often as much a prison for Void Spirit as for the enemy.

Across a game, this means Void Spirit can consistently outplay Mars. During the laning phase, he can trade effectively and dodge the spear. Later, when Mars looks for big teamfight-winning Arenas, Void Spirit can often turn the initiation around, leaving Mars exposed with his ultimate wasted. Mars's value comes from controlling a specific area, and Void Spirit's mobility completely negates that control. For Mars to have a chance, his team needs to provide instant silences or hexes, but otherwise Void Spirit is free to create chaos.
