Mars vs Zeus

How this matchup plays

Picking Mars as your frontline initiator feels like a trap when Zeus is on the enemy team. The entire defensive identity of Mars is built around Bulwark, which blocks huge amounts of physical attack damage. That protection is completely worthless against Zeus, who deals almost exclusively magical damage. Even Mars's ultimate, Arena of Blood, offers little safety. It creates a prison for enemies, but Zeus is perfectly happy to stand far outside of it and unload spells on anyone caught inside, including Mars himself. His kit fundamentally bypasses what Mars is designed to do.

This dynamic forces Mars to play on the back foot for most of the game. A good Arena initiation can still win a fight for his team, but Mars himself is always a prime target for Zeus's long-range magical burst. To have an impact, Mars needs to prioritize a Black King Bar and find a way to jump directly onto Zeus before he can get his spells off. For the Zeus player, the game plan is simple: maintain good positioning behind his own team, use items like a Force Staff for safety, and punish Mars whenever he commits to a fight.
