Medusa vs Muerta

How this matchup plays

Trying to kill Medusa with Pierce the Veil can be frustrating because Mana Shield absorbs the magic damage from the attacks. Muerta’s ultimate is designed to let her ignore physical damage dealers and burst them down with magic, but Medusa’s core defensive tool works against all damage types. This means that as long as Medusa has mana, she can often tank through Muerta's most important cooldown. Even Mystic Snake can be a problem, stealing the mana Muerta needs to sustain her own damage output.

The matchup often becomes a farm race. Medusa focuses on building a huge mana pool, turning herself into a frontline tank that Muerta simply cannot focus down alone. Muerta, in response, needs her team to provide mana drain or long-duration stuns to create a window to attack Medusa's health directly. Medusa can also use Stone Gaze to control an ethereal Muerta, turning a bad fight around for her team. It’s a slight advantage for Medusa because her natural build path directly answers the questions Muerta’s kit asks.
