Monkey King vs Ogre Magi

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map against Monkey King is much simpler with an Ogre Magi on the board. Monkey King's entire fighting pattern revolves around landing his combo to activate Jingu Mastery, but Ogre has the perfect tools to interrupt this. A single, reliable Fireblast can stop a Primal Spring initiation or hold Monkey King in place before he gets his fourth hit. With Multicast, Ogre can often layer stuns and slows, completely shutting down Monkey King's aggression window before it even opens. Ogre is also tanky enough to survive the initial jump and turn the fight himself.

From the start of the game, Ogre Magi makes it difficult for Monkey King to find kills or win his lane. He can shadow his own cores, holding his stun specifically to counter any gank. This forces Monkey King to rush a Black King Bar much earlier than he wants, delaying his core damage items. Even with spell immunity, Ogre is often beefy enough to outlast the BKB duration and lock Monkey King down again right after. Monkey King's best play is to avoid Ogre completely, but this gives Ogre's team free rein over major objectives.
