Monkey King vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Thinking you can jump on Phoenix and burst him down is a common trap for a Monkey King player. The reality is that Phoenix’s abilities systematically dismantle everything Monkey King wants to do. Fire Spirits massively slows his attack speed, making it nearly impossible to build Jingu Mastery stacks for damage. If he does manage to get close, Phoenix can simply use Icarus Dive to create distance again. The matchup feels especially one-sided once Supernova is available, as Monkey King has no reliable way to destroy the egg on his own.

This dynamic shapes the entire game. In the lane, Monkey King struggles to trade or secure creeps under the threat of Fire Spirits. Later on, his teamfight impact is severely limited. If Monkey King commits his ultimate, Wukong’s Command, Phoenix can drop Supernova inside it without fear. The soldiers completely ignore the egg, which allows Phoenix to get a free refresh and stun Monkey King and anyone else trapped in the ring. This forces Monkey King to play passively, waiting for his team to deal with Phoenix for him.
