Monkey King vs Sand King

How this matchup plays

Dropping Wukong's Command creates a stationary, high-value target for Sand King's entire kit. The large, predictable area is a perfect setup for a full-duration Epicenter. Sand King can Burrowstrike into the middle and channel his ultimate from the safety of Sand Storm, damaging the real Monkey King and clearing out his soldiers with ease. This interaction alone makes it difficult for Monkey King to have the teamfight impact he wants. Even outside of his ultimate, Burrowstrike provides a reliable stun to interrupt Monkey King during his combos.

To succeed, the Monkey King player has to be clever about timings. He must try to fight when Sand King's abilities are on cooldown or bait them out before committing Wukong's Command. The laning phase can also go either way, as Monkey King's sustained damage with Jingu Mastery can punish a poorly positioned Sand King. However, Sand King having a direct and effective answer to Monkey King's biggest spell means he often has the upper hand in the crucial mid and late-game teamfights where games are decided.
