Monkey King vs Slardar

How this matchup plays

Picking a hero reliant on Tree Dance into Slardar is a tough choice. Monkey King's entire game plan of escape and surprise initiation is undone by Corrosive Haze, which gives persistent vision and prevents any jukes through the canopy. The armor reduction from that same ability also makes Monkey King extremely fragile, even when he has bonus armor from Wukong's Command. To make matters worse, Slardar's Slithereen Crush is a perfect tool for stunning a stationary Monkey King inside his ultimate or for canceling a channeled Primal Spring from the trees. It’s a direct mechanical counter.

This pressure starts as soon as Slardar hits his first major timing. From that point on, Monkey King can't split push safely or look for his own pickoffs. He's forced onto the defensive, often needing to buy a Black King Bar or Linken's Sphere far earlier than he'd want, delaying his core damage items. Meanwhile, Slardar gets to play his ideal game, hunting a high-priority target that can't hide from him. The burden is entirely on the Monkey King to play perfectly around a hero whose kit seems designed to dismantle his own.
