Monkey King vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map against a Slark becomes a massive problem, as he fundamentally breaks Monkey King's engagement tools. A well-timed Dark Pact purges the slows from both Boundless Strike and Primal Spring, allowing Slark to walk away from ganks that would kill other heroes. This problem is even worse during teamfights, where Wukong's Command is supposed to lock down an area. Slark isn't forced to respect it; he can simply Pounce out of the circle or use Shadow Dance to ignore it completely, rendering Monkey King's biggest teamfight contribution ineffective against the enemy carry.

This dynamic allows Slark to play aggressively, farming lanes and hunting supports with little fear of being punished by Monkey King. Monkey King is forced to play reactively, often needing a lead and specific lockdown items like a Scythe of Vyse to even attempt a solo kill. By the time he gets those items, Slark is often already snowballing from Essence Shift stacks gained in earlier skirmishes. Monkey King wants a contained fight inside his ultimate, but Slark dictates his own terms, surviving the initial burst and turning the engagement in his favor.
