Muerta vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Laning against a Witch Doctor can be difficult for a hero as fragile as Muerta. His combination of Paralyzing Cask and Maledict puts her on a very short clock. She lacks a natural way to dispel the curse or mitigate the amplified damage, making her an easy target for any follow-up. While Muerta has her own crowd control with The Calling, it's generally easier for the Witch Doctor to land his stun and start his combo than it is for her to preemptively silence him. The immediate threat of Maledict forces her to play with a level of caution that can slow down her game.

This dynamic creates a tense mid-game where positioning is everything. A Witch Doctor who gets the jump can often secure a kill on Muerta before she can react. However, the matchup isn't one-sided. If Muerta activates Pierce the Veil, she becomes immune to Death Ward's physical damage and can easily turn and burst down the Witch Doctor. The fight often comes down to who lands their spells first. The slight advantage comes from Maledict being a consistent threat even if she does manage to survive the initial burst.
