Necrophos vs Phantom Lancer

How this matchup plays

Fighting into Necrophos as Phantom Lancer is a miserable experience. Your core strength is overwhelming enemies with illusions, but Heartstopper Aura turns each dying illusion into a source of health regeneration for Necrophos. You are literally healing your own counter. On top of that, his Death Pulse is a constant, low-cooldown area nuke that melts the very illusions you're trying to build up, making it nearly impossible to obscure your real hero or deal meaningful damage. This constant attrition makes the whole team, and especially the real Phantom Lancer, a prime target for a Reaper's Scythe finish.

This advantage for Necrophos starts in the lane and only gets stronger through the mid-game. Phantom Lancer needs time and space to farm items, but Necrophos loves long, drawn-out fights where his sustain can shine. He can stand his ground against a full illusion swarm, constantly healing and putting out damage, which forces PL’s team into a tough spot. Their only real option is to coordinate a massive, instant burst of damage to kill Necrophos before his regeneration takes over, which is a difficult task when he's building tanky items.
