Necrophos vs Io

How this matchup plays

Executing a low-health hero becomes a real tug-of-war. Io is built to keep one ally alive through almost anything with Tether's constant regeneration and the damage reduction from Overcharge. This directly clashes with Necrophos, whose goal is to wear targets down with Heartstopper Aura until they're vulnerable to a Reaper's Scythe. Neither hero has a clear advantage here. The Scythe's threshold execute is one of the few things that can cut through Io's save, but Io's powerful healing can also keep a partner out of that threshold in the first place.

This tension defines mid-game fights. Io’s team wants to leverage Relocate to pick their battles, bursting down key targets before Necrophos can establish his slow, draining presence. The Io player will try to bait the Scythe or keep their carry healthy enough to survive it. In contrast, the Necrophos team plays for longer engagements. They want to let the aura do its work, forcing Io to exhaust resources. A well-timed Scythe on Io’s tethered core can completely decide a teamfight and the objective that follows, making execution from both teams critical.
