Nyx Assassin vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Playing against a Nyx Assassin often forces a Witch Doctor to spend heavily on detection from the very start, slowing down his item progression. Nyx is built to hunt squishy intelligence heroes, and Witch Doctor is a prime target for his whole kit. The threat of Vendetta makes it dangerous to place wards alone, while Mana Burn deals significant damage. The most important interaction is Spiked Carapace, which can reflect Paralyzing Cask back at Witch Doctor for a stun. This allows Nyx to interrupt Death Ward or simply guarantee a kill on an isolated support.

The matchup becomes a game of vision control and positioning. A Witch Doctor who plays carefully with his team, or gets early survivability items like a Force Staff or Ghost Scepter, can often weather the initial burst from Nyx Assassin. If Nyx gets revealed by a sentry before he can initiate, the fight can swing the other way entirely. A surprise Paralyzing Cask followed by a full Death Ward is more than enough to kill Nyx. It all comes down to who sees who first, making it a very even fight of wits.
