Oracle vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

Trying to kill Phoenix's Supernova egg often comes down to whether your carry can attack it. Oracle provides a direct answer to the Fire Spirits slow, purging the debuff from a key ally with Fortune's End. His whole kit lines up to counter this kind of initiation, using False Promise to save whichever ally Phoenix dives and Fate's Edict to block the follow-up magic damage. Phoenix operates on a much wider scale, however. While Oracle can reliably save one person, a well-placed Supernova will still stun the rest of the team, and Sun Ray puts out sustained area damage that can overwhelm single-target healing.

The result is a constant back-and-forth in teamfights. The Oracle player has to play reactively, waiting for Phoenix to commit before using his saves. The Phoenix player, knowing this, looks for opportunities to catch Oracle himself in the stun or force him out of position with Icarus Dive and Sun Ray. Since Oracle can undo Phoenix's initiation on one hero but Phoenix can disable multiple heroes at once, the fight often comes down to positioning and timing. Neither hero has a guaranteed upper hand, making it a very even contest of skill.
