Oracle vs Skywrath Mage

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst a target down as Skywrath Mage feels frustrating when an Oracle is on the other team. Skywrath's entire plan revolves around stacking his silence and magic amplification to kill a hero in seconds with Mystic Flare. Oracle can completely disrupt this with two key abilities. Fortune's End can dispel the Ancient Seal, breaking the combo before it starts. If the combo does land, False Promise on the target delays all damage and doubles all healing they receive. This creates a wide window for Oracle's team to pour in heals and turn the gank attempt around.

This core interaction defines the matchup. In teamfights, the Skywrath Mage has to be very careful. Committing his ultimate on a key hero only for Oracle to save them with False Promise can leave Skywrath exposed and his most important spell on cooldown. His best play is often to wait for Oracle to use his ultimate on someone else, or to try and focus Oracle down first. The constant threat of having his burst damage negated gives Oracle a slight, but clear, advantage across the game.
